The Builder
He builds sand castles. They get washed
away in the sea. The sea swallows him as well.
As his consciousness is dissolved in the sea, he moves on to another
life as a child. Then he grows up and starts building a castle again. Just
where he left off. Everything repeats
itself.
A child delivery is in procession inside
the maternity ward of a hospital. The child is taken out, held upside down and
spanked. The child starts crying and thus breathing. The child is handed over to it's mother. Next
scene the mother puts it down in some other place at some other time, and he
starts walking. Within a few seconds the child is shown passing through the
three stages of life and coming to meet old age. The old man then starts
walking towards the sea. He starts building a sand castle. He builds a life
size castle of sand. Then the sea rises vehemently and swallows him up along
with his sand castle.
Child delivery scene repeats. This time
an adolescent youth steps out and goes to the sea. Same work, same fate.
Child delivery scene repeats. This time
the child is brought to the beach and let to play with sand as his parents take
sunbath. Face not shown of adults. The baby strays away just a little towards
the sea but still far enough to not cause anxiety in his parents. The baby
builds a tiny sand castle. Then the same fate occurs. The parents cry madly for
their beloved baby.
Child delivery scene repeats. This time a
young man. After the building is complete, as the sea opens up its
all-pervading omnivorous mouth to swallow whole the man and his castle, the man
halts the monster "Stop! No! Why do you do this to me everytime? Why do
you do this?"
The sea roars. The human ear interprets
it as "The truth is in seeking the answer, not in finding it."
Several inset scenes are shown of the sea
gobbling down humans and their precious material possessions...
